team planning

reduce uncertainty, increase understanding, foster improvements

The importance of context is paramount. The team planning tools are purposefully designed to complement your type of team (Product, Mission, Operations), unlike traditional methodologies that assume that one size fits all.  Our team planning tools reduce uncertainty, enhance progress transparency, and increase your team's ability to adjust to changing market conditions.

The remote:af Team Planning tools are designed to take into account the context of each of the team types (Product, Mission, Operations). They do this by ensuring shorter feedback cycles, defining what can be done asynchronously whilst enabling the minimisation of the number of planning meetings and the time between them. All of this is necessary for remote teams to advance without the mental stress and endless, productivity-eroding online meeting cycles.

To maintain these short feedback loops, we don’t spend more than two hours on team planning per week. Planning is contextual to the team types; for example

  • Product teams plan in small cycles so that they can remain adaptive to change while also providing external stakeholders with certainty.
  • Mission teams are outcome focussed, they don’t ‘plan’ their work per se, they sequence it according to cost of delay and then execute.
  • Operations teams are demand responsive rather than plan-driven and use flow based planning such as replenishment activities.

All team planning is done to capacity. Using the data captured from previous cycles enables the team to make informed decisions on the amount of work they can complete in the upcoming timebox. Metrics used are those that are defined in the context of each of the team archetypes - at remote:af we believe not all metrics are equal.
